| August 15th-
Been a long time, so I'll get straight to the
point- August 25th,
outside of the Tap Room,
The Lot Party, featuring several bands like Vitamin A, The Urban
Jazz Naturals, Children's Audio, Rodeo Soul, and Celia. Oh yeah,
and the 2002 model, fully hydraulic, low profile, twenty inch
rim having Getaway Car.
I'm not sure who started the ugly rumor of us breaking up but
we'll deal with them later. Jay took off to play with computers
and maybe some late night education. (?) Don't be surprised
if he pops up every now and then just for the fun of it. He's
still doing the web site and graphics for us. Everything is
cool on that front. Dan was late to the last show and we haven't
seen him since'
So what we have is John on keys, adding some
piano and a clavinet (sp?) to his arsenal. Eric's on samples,
noises, turntables, maybe some bass, maybe some guitar, and
whatever else. I'm on bass and still trying to sing, maybe I'll
get to play the big riff on 'Deep Down', we haven't yet decided
but we're all fighting for it. On drums, weighing in at, hmm,
maybe 175lbs, straight out of Jim Henson's closet- Grover
(Stewart). A very, very bad man. Wait 'til you hear him rock
the Drum and Bass joints. Ridicalicalicalous.
Eric brought in some drum machine programmed
beats and he can actually play them. Grover had been with The
Grooveaholics. They had some drama, we had some drama and this
is where it stands.
We have written a few new songs, rearranged
old songs, dropped some old songs and now everything is shiny
and new again. We're all happy with it so come check it out.
Still might add another member, someone to aid Eric in the soundscape,
texture department who can also do onstage mixing, dubbing out
the band and completely twisting things around before they ever
reach the soundman. We have our eye on some one in particular
but we need to finish up a few things. Speaking of which, a few
shout outs are in order- Doug Surreal and the whole Litterthugs
Crew, check these cats out, they're nothing but fun and silliness.
2 Fly Bitches (along with DJ Marie)- play the funkiest
House and Drum and Bass. Watch for them at the Upstairs on whichever
Wednesday, I can't keep track. Eric Ketzer- a friend of
mine on the acoustic tip, with a HUGE voice. He'll be putting
out a cd next year and guess who's playing bass on some of the
tracks? Flex Boogie always rocks the house, DJ Ses,
Bits and Pieces and last but not least, yo' moms.
Things we're listening to/wanting?
Dillinja- Cybotron, (you've NEVER heard low
end like this. NEVER). Anything by Shy Fx or Dylan. The new
Deep Dish, and the new Doyle Bramhall (I forgot the name). I'm
still wearing out the MJ Cole record, The Poets of Rhythm, and
The Philadelphia Experiment. That Alicia Keyes single is good,
plus she's fine; saw Sade in Chicago, incredible as always.
Don't miss her if she comes to town, her band has to be one
of the most talented in the world. Bilal's record is hitting.
There's a new Bjork record coming out this month, new Lamb in
September, and a new Dilated Peoples as well. Should be a good
fall. Oh yeah, be on the lookout for this crazy gangsta rapper
named FAO Schwartzanigga. I heard a demo and this cat is outrageous.
I don't think anyone is this hard. 'Cept us.
I'm out-
Donald
